This is the bridge between the seventeenth-century Stuart world and the mid-eighteenth-century army. It follows the Glorious Revolution, the Williamite wars, Marlborough's campaigns against Louis XIV and the Jacobite attempt to reverse the Revolution Settlement.

Why this period matters
These campaigns sit inside one long military transition: a stronger fiscal state, larger standing armies, coalition warfare, disciplined linear infantry and growing dependence on supply, artillery and bureaucracy. By the time Britain fought at Minden in 1759, the military world had changed sharply from that of the Civil Wars.
