Pike and shot warfare — Pike and shot tactics defined much of early-modern European infantry warfare, combining dense blocks of pikemen with soldiers armed with firearms.

History behind the design

The balance between pike and firearm changed over time, but the system shaped battlefields from the sixteenth century into the seventeenth and beyond.
